Skretting receives environmental award

Aquaculture workers and suppliers were out in full force this past Saturday to celebrate their star performers at the 11th Aquaculture Awards gala dinner at a sold-out venue in Campbell River, BC.

Awards were handed out in several categories which include Leadership, Aquaculture Business, Environmental Excellence, Long-Term Recognition and Rookie of the Year. The awards night also provides an opportunity to raise money in support of important non-profit organizations that help benefit British Columbia’s wild salmon.

Paula Galloway of the British Columbia Centre for Aquatic Heath Sciences presented Skretting with the Environment Award. The award recognizes an organization that has effectively broadened the practice of sustainable aquaculture.

Positive Aquaculture Awareness says Skretting was nominated for its dedication to “science and research that helps aquaculture feeds continue down the sustainability path – specifically the reduction of fishmeal and fish oil in today’s fish feed diet.”

Skretting also sponsored the Rookie of the Year award, which was presented to Lauren Edgar of Marine Harvest Canada. The award recognizes an individual who has been in the industry less than five years and has demonstrated outstanding performance and dedication to the industry.
